Dear Parents and Students:

With the world economy creating and shifting jobs every day, experts say that college is your best shot at learning how to live in this world and to think on your own.  To help our students prepare to enter college, the path to a craft or profession that will form the centerpiece to their lives, we are providing the attached information which includes tips to college success and how to prepare for college.

We have also included deadline dates and criteria for eligibility on selected scholarships.  All Academy scholarship applications are due on February 15, 2006.  Students are reminded that letters of recommendation from faculty and industry personnel should be requested as soon as possible.  It may be helpful to provide them with a resume or brief outline of your accomplishments, activities and any information that should be included in the letter of recommendation.   Students who completed an internship this past summer should request a general letter of recommendation to be used for scholarship and/or college applications.

All seniors are required to complete a minimum of one scholarship application as  a requirement in their Language Arts and Marketing classes in addition to the school’s requirement of completing the scholarship application for the Kiwanis Club Scholarship

in order to qualify for Senior activities.

Seniors should complete the required paperwork needed to take the SAT or ACT tests.  The calendar of testing dates along with scholarship applications from various scholarship programs is attached.  Additional scholarships will be announced throughout the year as they are received by this office or through the CAP office.  Please visit the school’s web site at http://miamibeachhigh.dadeschools.net for up-to-date information on deadline dates and scholarships.

We hope this information is helpful in your quest to secure college financial assistance.  Please note all deadline dates and ask your teachers and/or counselor to review your applications and essays before submission.  Best of luck!

Sincerely,

Lupe Ferran Diaz, Ph.D.

The Scholar Ship is a new model for international education. It is an oceangoing academic program for international students aboard a passenger ship dedicated exclusively to undergraduate and postgraduate education.

During a 16-week semester, we take you to eight countries on five continents, where you will pursue numerous opportunities through our Shore Program, which includes field programs, excursions and independent travel. Our shore program is highly integrated into our academic program, making for a sophisticated experiential education experience. You will be joined by 600 to 700 students from around the world who share your understanding of the importance of developing your intercultural competencies as a means to a successful career.

Onboard, you will be completely immersed in a multicultural living environment. Our international student body and staff form a learning community that integrates academic, cultural, and social experiences in programs that enhance personal and professional development.

To succeed in this increasingly interdependent world, you need more than linguistic abilities. You need the intercultural knowledge, understanding and leadership skills that come from experiences among many cultures. This is what the Scholar Ship can offer you.
